Welcome to Yesterday’s Story CIC!
Yesterday’s Story CIC is a community interest company that will focus on community projects that bring history to life. I set the company up in January 2022 and, along with our Finance Director Elizabeth Helm, I have been busy getting us ready to start work.
I have worked in the cultural sector for over 20 years, working as an Arts Development Officer in local government, leading on community and education projects for theatres and venues, and working for a leading National Portfolio Organisation. I have always been drawn to heritage based projects and I have been lucky enough to manage serval over the years.
Elizabeth has spent her career in local government in a variety of finance roles. This has given her exposure to the wide range of services provided by local authorities, including the cultural side and it is where we first worked together.
Through our work we hope to
- Increase civic pride and the understanding of local heritage.
- Work with local schools and colleges, community organisations and groups, to engage people and raise their awareness of the history of their area.
- Improve wellbeing and social cohesion through artistic engagement and creativity.
- Develop performances, workshops and participatory events to increase participation in the arts.
- Encourage diversity and cross generational working.
- Provide training to upskill the communities we work with.
And most of all, have fun!
I have been talking to a local organisation about running a project for them and I have submitted our first funding bid, so hopefully I will have a project to tell you about soon!
