Two months ago, I signed up to a business incubator called Thrively. Over a year I will receive workshops I can take part in in my own time and live group coaching sessions. I still have ten months to go, but one of the early sessions really helped me think about the direction of Yesterday’s Story CIC.
We were looking at our values, why we do what we do. I have already explained in a previous blog that I wanted to set up the company so that I could work around my children, but beyond that this unit made me think about why I do my work.
People who work in the creative sector rarely do their job for the money. Some people are paid very well, but they are driven by more than the money. We believe in what we do and the impact we have. With this in mind I have created my values for the company –
Enjoyment
Many people under value enjoyment. It can be dismissed as not as important as other things in life, but I think enjoyment should be key to everything. When we are enjoying ourselves, we are happy, and happy people have healthier relationships, work harder and use resources such as the NHS less.
Civic Pride
Having pride in where we live or where we come from can help us care more for our surroundings those within in. It can also lead to …
Wellbeing and Self-Esteem
An increase in our wellbeing and self-esteem leads to happier people and we know this is better and more productive for everyone.
Creativity
I love to be creative and I love giving other people an opportunity to be creative. Everyone can be creative!
Inclusion
All our work with be accessible to everyone and more than that, working with a diverse range of people can only enrich a project.
These values will help me shape the projects I work on with Yesterday’s Story and help me decide what partners to work with.
