Paralegal Job Requirements

Education & Certification

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field.
• Paralegal certification from an accredited program (preferred but not always required).

Experience

• Prior experience in a law firm or legal department (1–3 years for entry-level; 3–5+ years for senior/paralegal specialist roles).
• Familiarity with specific practice areas (e.g., family law, probate, litigation, real estate, corporate law).

Skills

• Strong knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and filing requirements.
• Proficient in legal research using LexisNexis, Westlaw, or similar platforms.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Skilled in drafting and proofreading legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities; able to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
• Proficient with case management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Other Requirements

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with attorneys and support staff.
• Professional demeanor with excellent client service skills.
